Second Femoral Head Ostectomy

Second Femoral Head Ostectomy

It happened.  Round 2 has officially begun.  Last Friday, the 25th, I dropped Bacio off for his second Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery.  We pulled into the parking lot around 8:30am.  it was closer to 8:45 when we got in the door, not because it was a long walk, but Bacio seemed to remember what happens there, and he refused to get out of the car.  Trying to wrestle him out of the car was quite a challenge. I didn’t…

First Therapy Session After FHO surgery and fall

First Therapy Session After FHO surgery and fall

Yesterday was Bacio’s first day of school therapy.  I was excited about, more so than him.  We braved through the wet snow storm to get there, even though it’s only 5-10 minutes from our living quarters.  This session was a double session.  We started off with laser therapy.  The laser therapy stimulated the cells in his muscles and bones.  It helps the body “wake up”, so they can start healing, building new tissues, all that fun stuff… I wonder if…

Dog UTI and A day left for the FHO

Dog UTI and A day left for the FHO

Well one full day left until I drop by pup off for surgery.  I am no longer as worried about the actual surgery as I am about the recovery.  I have found some resources online and gotten some advice from Dogster.com‘s forum.  I mean I’ll still be a wreck all day on Friday, but things are starting to come together.  Some things I’ve read suggest that the stairs are going to be a problem for a couple months… That would…

Too big for a Cage

Too big for a Cage

Well, it is official. Bacio is too big for his crate. I finally got him in there and he can barely stand up inside there. You know, Bacio has always seemed tiny to me, it’s things like this that put his size into perspective. Off to find something that can contain this beast. Heh.

One week

One week

Well in one week from now Bacio will (hopefully by this time of day) be out of surgery.  I’m so nervous, but so happy for the little guy.  It will be rough at first but in the end I am sure this is the right thing to do.   He’s still afraid of his crate, if anyone has any suggestions on how to make that a more fun place for him to be let me know.  I’ve tried leading him…

Anxious

Anxious

Today I find myself very anxious and almost excited to call the vet next week to make Bacio’s appointment for surgery. I’ve been thinking all day about ways I can raise funds to pay for the procedure.  I will offer photography at discounted rates and I’m thinking about some sort of party for him.  If anyone has any ideas I would be glad to hear them. My new years resolution is for my boy to be pain free by the…

Bacio’s Hips, Part 1

Bacio’s Hips, Part 1

Well if you read my last post, you know the story behind Bacio’s current condition.  I took my little labrynees to the Fox Lake Animal Hospital today.  It is a walk in clinic, no appointments and usually a very long wait from what I read on the internet.  According to the sites I read, it opened at 9:00 am and I should get there early or expect a 3-4 hour wait.  I stayed at my dad’s house, which was only…

A holiday gift!

A holiday gift!

Well if you celebrate it, Merry Christmas, if not, Happy Tuesday!  I hope everyone’s day finds them well.  Besides my childhood years, I have never really been the biggest fan of the Christmas holiday.  I love my family and friends, but I don’t feel like I need a holiday to tell me when I can buy them things, and I don’t like having a holiday make me feel obligated to buy them things.  That being said, I received the best…

Socks

Socks

Oi.  It’s 11:30 on a Saturday night and here I am having the time of my life… writing on my dog blog…  I got home earlier tonight from a birthday party and little miss Yuki managed to find a can of Pam olive oil spray.  She didn’t eat the can, she just likes to take it to prove she was upset I left her.  However, I suspect Bacio somehow got sprayed, because he wouldn’t stop licking his legs and paws….
