Three months after Femoral Head Ostectomy

Three months after Femoral Head Ostectomy

Tomorrow is April 18th, on January 18th, three months ago, Bacio went his for his FHO surgery on his right hip.  His hip dysplasia is so severe it was pretty much a flip of the coin deciding which leg to operate on first.  With all the set backs, falling, and stubborness we’ve gone through with Bacio, we’re finally seeing major improvements.  I have to give a HUGE thanks to Integrative Pet Care for the progress we’ve made.  In fact, Bacio…

Giving a Siberian husky a bath

Giving a Siberian husky a bath

Yesterday the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and Sam and the dogs were out at the park.  It was a beautiful day, but unfortunately the grass hasn’t had a chance to grow yet, so thawing bits of the park came home with us after our walk.  Where there wasn’t mud, there was dry dirt.  Yuki has been in need of a bath for some time now, but this was just the icing on the cake. Today was supposed…

First long walk after FHO shadowed by a fall

First long walk after FHO shadowed by a fall

Argggh. I’m so frustrated right now.  I’m mad at Bacio.  We were doing so well this morning.  We got some therapy exercises in, had some play time with Yuki, and then we were off for a stroll.  The weather is in the mid 30’s today, so off to the park we went.  We meandered through the not as muddy parts of the part, and the dogs caught up on their sniffs.  Everything had to be smelled, every tree, every odd…

Peanut Butter Hydrotherapy Motivation

Peanut Butter Hydrotherapy Motivation

Well, Bacio keeps increasing his times in the hydro tank.  He did 15 minutes today.  Every session he’s able to go longer, and he kinda has a crush on the therapist I think.  The one problem with Bacio is his lack of motivation.  He get bored, stares off at random things, sometimes he watches himself in the mirror, and then he forgets to walk.  We’ve tried toys and treats, and he just doesn’t care.  Well… today we tried peanut butter….

Two Months After FHO Surgery, Recovery Progress

Two Months After FHO Surgery, Recovery Progress

Hard to believe it has already been two months since Bacio’s FHO surgery.  I remember being so scared, anxious, and nervous driving him to the vet.  I knew what I was doing was in his best interest, yet I was still concerned.  For newer readers that may not be familiar with Bacio, he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at a year old, but never showed signs of pain.  I held off on anything invasive until he showed some signs of…

Bacio Fakes It.

Bacio Fakes It.

Ahhhh.  I’m so ready for winter to be over.  Every single time we have therapy, it snows.  The therapy has been going well so far.  Bacio has definitely gained some confidence.  He’s kinda like the hydrotherapy now and his sessions are getting longer and longer.  The laser therapy he’s not too sure of still. About a week ago, the little guy balanced on his right hind leg to pee.  That’s right folks.  He balanced on the leg that he had…

First Therapy Session After FHO surgery and fall

First Therapy Session After FHO surgery and fall

Yesterday was Bacio’s first day of school therapy.  I was excited about, more so than him.  We braved through the wet snow storm to get there, even though it’s only 5-10 minutes from our living quarters.  This session was a double session.  We started off with laser therapy.  The laser therapy stimulated the cells in his muscles and bones.  It helps the body “wake up”, so they can start healing, building new tissues, all that fun stuff… I wonder if…

First Week After FHO Video

First Week After FHO Video

Sorry Guys, but better late than never.  I had some issues with the new computer, I haven’t been able to get the video on the machine.  It is semi fixed, but I’m still upset with Apple.  Here’s a little video of his first 8 days after the FHO surgery: He walks pretty well in those videos and his leg looks much more defined than it is now.  That makes me sad.  I think the fall on the stairs really set…

Laser and Hydro Therapy Treatment Post FHO

Laser and Hydro Therapy Treatment Post FHO

Yesterday Bacio had his consultation appointment with the therapists over at Integrative Pet Care.  Yuki and I came along for moral support.  I have to admit, after hearing about the costs for therapy and the initial consultation, I was a bit wary.  Before the appointment I had asked friends for opinions and read reviews all over the internet.  For the most part the reviews were 5 star, and I have to say, after that consultation visit, I feel like most…

Physical Therapy for FHO Recovery

Physical Therapy for FHO Recovery

Smash.  That’s what Bacio did this morning.  He was too giddy this morning and tried to move to fast and his legs did the splits.  I tried not to freak out too much.  He seemed a bit shaken up, so I gave him a pain pill expecting him to not feel so great today.  Morning walk was slow, I get so paranoid about his ligaments and knees when he falls.  He spent most the day in the crate while I…
